Readington Township

Natural Resource Inventory

Readington Towship NRI

Readington Township is one of the most rapidly growing communities in Hunterdon County. To assist the Environmental Commission and Planning Board in the review of development applications, the preparation of new development ordinances, and identification of lands to be considered for preservation or acquisition for recreational use, the Environmental Commission contracted Princeton Hydro to update the Township’s Natural Resource Inventory (NRI). The revised NRI received a Planning Excellence Award from the Hunterdon County Planning Board.

Section I contains a description of current zoning, land development, and programs currently protecting the townships environmental resources

Section II is the natural resource inventory that contains:

  • Geographical Information System (GIS) maps
  • Associated GIS data
  • Environmental and ecological data (wetlands, streams, soils, geology, etc.)
  • Cultural resource and related social resource data,
  • Environmental and planning narratives, and
  • Photos, illustrations and diagrams describing and locating natural and cultural resources in the township.

Princeton Hydro subsequently received another state grant to prepare more detailed sub-elements of the plan. Additional sections will include GIS overlay analysis, environmental vulnerability classifications, an identification of most vulnerable natural resources, and a comprehensive conservation management plan. As with the basic elements of the NRI, these natural and anthropomorphic attributes of the Township will be developed using GIS applications. The management plan will contain regulatory and non-regulatory goals, objectives, and activities designed to preserve, enhance, maintain, and restore Readington’s natural resources.
